Twenty-one year old Ben is on a journey - to follow his TV-obsessed dad and explore how television consumption has evolved from one generation to the next.

After missing the last train after their best friend’s wedding, Ko, Reiji, and Yasumasa are dropped off at a small train station in the countryside. A teacher, a salaried worker, and an aspiring painter, three people with vague anxieties walk the dark streets at night and pour out their thoughts.

Matthias Schüpbach’s Searching for the 5th Direction is a journey into the depths of the self that takes us across the blurred border of the outside world and through dark inner worlds. We float through virtually reconstructed spaces, and as we ascend through a landscape of autumn leaves we witness the first “glitches” in our reality, subtly pointing to the brittleness of our perception.
